Approximately twenty-five thousand homes in south-east Queensland were left lacking electricity on Monday's dawn after intense storm systems swept through the state, producing wind gusts topping over 100 km/h.

State Emergency Services responded to 598 emergency reports across the area, mostly for structural issues but also for downed trees and flooding.

Damp conditions were expected to linger along much of eastern Queensland this coming days as a weather pattern continued to pull in damp air against the coast.

Public health experts cautioned that there was an higher risk of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the northern rural areas, especially given the current weather patterns.
